Much More Than Joints

According to Dr. Stuchin, the juxtaposition of focused expertise in joint surgery and comprehensive excellence in all facets of medical care makes the program unique. "Doctors from different disciplines often work closely together, each contributing very specialized knowledge and skills. Because each patient's joint problem can be different, it's important to have a thorough diagnostic evaluation and a full range of therapeutic options available. Some patients who are referred to us for surgery actually do better with other treatments that we provide."

"We do things here that cannot be done in most other hospitals," he continues. "For example, joint revision surgery -- to replace previously implanted devices -- is much more difficult than the initial surgery for replacing a natural joint. It is no surprise that so many of these difficult cases are treated here, because we are uniquely equipped to deal with them. Our program has state-of-the-art technology that simplifies the removal of the old devices, reduces operating time, and reduces the risk to the patient.

Riding Again

Diane Kwiatkoski, now 41, rides her horse almost daily, and on occasion participates in show jumping. But she no longer competes in triathlons. "Dr. Stuchin told me to be good to my joint and it will be good to me," Diane recalls. "I don't want to have another hip replaced for a long tie. But when I do, I'll know where to go for exceptional care."
