Leaves of Absence and
Withdrawal
GSAS
Policy - In Brief
Students
in good standing (with a 3.0 average), who need
to withdraw temporarily for national service,
serious illness or compelling personal reasons
may apply for a leave of absence which, if approved
by the Associate Dean, maintains their status
and assures readmission at the end of the leave.
The length of the leave should not exceed one
year. For further details, please refer to the

Sackler Institute follows all GSAS rules pertaining
to leave of absence with the following modification:
Students
requesting a leave of absence should submit
a letter to their graduate advisor stating the
reason for the leave and include the last date
of participation in the program. A copy of this

Harassment
As
part of a long-standing commitment of non-discrimination
and equal opportunity in all of its employment
practices, the School of Medicine prohibits
sexual harassment or intimidation in the workplace.
In order to reinforce this commitment, the Office
of the Dean is sponsoring a mandatory program
that will assist faculty, professional research
and management level employees in recognizing
and dealing with sexual harassment issues in
the workplace. The program provides faculty
and managers with the option of accessing an
interactive Internet-based sexual harassment
prevention training program or attending the
Preventing Sexual Harrassment Workshop facilitated
by the Human Resources Department.
The
interactive internet-based training is easily
accessible from any computer linked to the Internet
and requires the successful completion of a
mastery test. This interactive training can
be accessed at www.med.nyu.edu. The estimated
time to review the material on line and complete
the test is approximately 45 minutes.
The
Preventing Sexual Harrassment Workshop is a
classroom-based interactive learning experience
that combines lecture, group exercises and video
scenarios. To register for a workshop, please
call the Organizational Development and Learning
Department at 404-3868.
